Celebrating 70 Years of Pottery!
The Deep River Potters’ Guild
Established in 1954
Our Mission Statement
The Deep River Potters’ Guild is a welcoming community with a common interest in pottery and ceramic art. The guild maintains an environment for all people and every skill level to create in a well-equipped, safe, and affordable studio. We encourage knowledge sharing and skill development and provide opportunities for all while sustaining fiscal viability.
Overlooking the scenic Ottawa River and the Laurentian mountains, the Deep River Potters’ Guild has a rich and diverse history of fostering creativity, community spirit and the sharing of knowledge.
Our operations rely on volunteer participation from our membership. This business model has been integral to our ability to operate for 70 years while offering affordable memberships fees, access to a fully resourced studio and vibrant community for our members.
Members enjoy the freedom of accessing the well appointed studio 24/7. We offer our members lessons, clinics, throwing camps, workshops and social activities. The guild has kick and electric wheels, a slab roller, spray booth, tools and four kilns (2 electric, 1 raku and 1 gas).
Twice a year (September and January) we open new member enrollment and offer Introduction to Pottery in a 9 week lesson series, which equips new members with the skills to work independently. Because of our popularity, we generally have a wait list for new membership.
Whenever possible our volunteer outreach facilitators provide community engagement opportunities for school children, summer camps, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, and seniors’ groups.
When our members are not slinging clay, they are volunteering their time and diverse skills to promote, run and maintain our facility and operations. However it is not all work and no play; the members gather frequently for social activities such as pot lucks, lectures, coffee breaks, and even road trips to further their understanding of pottery and the ceramic arts.
Due to our space limitations, we regret that we are unable to offer general public access to the studio space at this time.
